Complete guide to Birdle scoring and gameplay
Your Wordle attempts are converted to golf scores based on how many tries it took you to solve the puzzle:
For Birdle-Connections, scores are based on right answers (rows where all 4 cells are the same color) and wrong answers (rows with mixed colors):
All other rules — missed days (+3), monthly totals, and handicap calculation — are the same as Birdle (Wordle).
For Birdle-Waffle, scores are based on how many of the 5 words you solved correctly before running out of swaps:

Ladder is Birdle's native word-chain game. Transform the start word into the end word one letter at a time — every step must be a real word, and fewer moves is better.
Change one letter per step
Each move swaps exactly one letter to form a new word
Every step must be a real word
No gibberish — each intermediate word must exist
Reach the end word
Complete the chain by landing on the target end word
Fewer moves is better
Your score is the number of moves taken — minimize it
Par = known optimal moves
Each puzzle has a par set to the fewest moves known to solve it
One puzzle per day
Everyone gets the same puzzle, resetting at midnight in your timezone
Golf scoring labels:
All other rules — missed days (+3), monthly totals, and handicap calculation — are the same as Birdle (Wordle).
Every day you miss in the current month automatically adds +3 (Triple-Bogey) to your monthly total score.
How it works:
- If you start playing mid-month, all previous days in that month count as missed
- Each missed day adds +3 to your monthly total
- This applies to ALL players to ensure fair competition
- Missed days are calculated based on your timezone
Example: If you submit your first score on the 15th of the month, days 1-14 will each add +3 to your monthly total (42 points total from missed days).
Your monthly total score is the sum of:
All submitted scores
Every Wordle score you submit during the month
Missed day penalties
+3 for each day in the current month you didn't submit a score
Goal:
The lowest monthly total wins! Play every day and score well to minimize your total.
Your handicap is your average score across all rounds you've ever played.
Important:
- Only submitted scores count toward your handicap
- Missed days with automatic +3 penalties are NOT included in handicap calculation
- Your handicap reflects your true average performance on days you actually played
Example: If you've submitted 10 scores totaling +5, your handicap is +0.5 (regardless of how many days you missed).
To ensure fair play and accurate tracking:
One submission per day
You can only submit one Wordle score per calendar day
Timezone-based tracking
Your submissions are tracked based on your profile timezone setting
Puzzle number validation
Each submission is validated against the official Wordle puzzle number for that day
